The Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation Engage BMT for Ferry Alternatives Assessment
The Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation are pleased to announce the hiring of BMT to provide an expert evaluation of ferry alternatives to the proposed Fixed Link.
As part of the IAAC process, where comments were received that further examination into Fixed Link alternatives is desired, BMT's involvement will enhance the community’s understanding of what a long-term, water-based transportation solution—envisioned through the lens of seven generations—could look like.
BMT, a renowned company specializing in ship design, engineering, and technical services, has a proven track record in providing their customers with innovative and leading-edge naval architecture, marine system design, structural engineering, metallurgical engineering, and program management services to the commercial marine and defence (Navy) sectors.
BMT will provide the First Nation with a third-party analysis of water-based transportation solutions that would meet the community’s desired needs. The process will involve engagements with First Nation leadership, staff, current transportation teams, regulators, and supply chain professionals to understand the limitations of the current ferry system and provide a solution to overcome those limitations.
The results of this work will be incorporated into the alternatives assessment to the Fixed Link required for the Detailed Project Description. The submission of the Detailed Project Description to the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada is anticipated near the end of November 2024.
