Project Update: Updated Timeline and Scheduled Community Engagement Session
Adjusted Timeline for DPD Submission
We are committed to ensuring transparency and active community participation in the Georgina Island Fixed Link (GIFL) Project. To provide sufficient time for a thorough review and feedback, the timeline for the Detailed Project Description (DPD) submission has been adjusted. Originally set for late November, the new target date for the DPD submission is the end of January. This extension allows the community to fully review and discuss the project’s key findings.
Upcoming Online Engagement Session
In line with our dedication to transparency and community involvement, we are pleased to announce an online engagement session scheduled for December 11, 2024, at 7:30 PM. This virtual session will provide updates on the project’s progress, highlight findings from updated studies and new research, and offer a platform for the public to share their thoughts and questions. Further details, including how to participate in the session, will be shared soon.
Upcoming Reports
Updated renderings of a redesigned structure, the resulting revised Coastal Engineering Report and new research examining community ferry alternatives are in the final stages of approval by the Chief and Council. These reports will be available once those approvals are received by the Secretariat. This information will be included in the scheduled DPD submission in January.
